After the Thomas Henry museum in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, the exhibition dedicated to Will Eisner (1917-2005) moves to Italy, hosted at the PAFF!, in Pordenone. The exhibition introduces Will Eisner's work. Famous in the field of sequential art, the american artist is the creator of the superhero The Spirit, and is acknowledged as a pioneer of the graphic novel medium. The exhibition invites the public to discover the depth of Eisner's art through more than 180 original comics pages.
The immersive scenography replicates New York's atmosphere, a symbolic town for the author : the wild display of the texts, the suspension of illustrated tarpaulins looking like skyscrapers and the sensation of walking through a huge town under the rain will make the experience intense to the visitor.
The exhibition starts by introducing the state of comics in the United States in the 1930s, dealing with the influences of thrillers on Will Eisner's work. The visitors can then discover the Spirit through complete stories as well as an analysis of Eisner's art style and skills. The last room is dedicated to Eisner's work on graphic novels, a medium of which he is a real precursor.
