The exhibition « Blacksad – I colori del noir » is dedicated to the comics genius Juanjo Guarnido. Thanks to 130 original plates and illustrations beautifully displayed, the visitors will be able to admire the Spanish author's spectacular skills and witness the unique universe he was able to create.
Juanjo Guarnido is, among other things, the author of the popular series Blacksad, which tells the adventures of a detective cat in America in the 1950s. The exhibition starts by tracing the artist's biography then addresses in more details the series he created, especially Blacksad, with an individual focus on the volumes 1 to 6. His collaboration with the writer Juan Díaz Canales is highlighted : having written Blacksad, this series could finally come to life thanks to both his imagination and the work of the talented Juanjo Guarnido. The zoomorphic aspect of the series is inevitably dealt with, as Blacksad has the originality of showing animal characters with human characteristics, revisiting the tradition of the fable. The exhibition takes the time to analyze the author's style and technics : the use of watercolors, the creation of backgrounds and realistic atmospheres (evidence of a real documentation), frames and cuts inspired by the codes of cinema. The other major works of the author are exhibited as well : Les Indes Fourbes, Sorcelleries, Voyageur. The scenography is full of references and items reminding us of "guarnidian" places and situations, inviting the visitor to an immersive experience. (Sources : PAFF! and 9e Art Références)
